Broncos agree to 3-year, $30M contract with CB Ronald Darby

The Denver Broncos have reached an agreement with cornerback Ronald Darby, ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported Monday. Darby’s three-year deal with Denver is worth $30 million and includes $19.5 million guaranteed, according to Schefter.

Darby (5-11, 193 pounds) entered the NFL as a second-round pick out of Florida State with the Buffalo Bills in 2015. After spending two seasons in Buffalo, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017.

In three seasons with the Eagles, Darby totaled 114 tackles, 32 pass breakups and six interceptions before becoming a free agent last spring. He then signed a one-year deal with the Washington Football Team. Darby started in all 16 games for Washington last season, recording 55 tackles and 16 pass breakups.

Darby has battled numerous injuries in his career, missing 20 games from 2017-2019, but he is poised to start in Denver if he stays healthy.

Darby will likely play as one of the Broncos’ outside cornerbacks, perhaps across from Michael Ojemudia with Bryce Callahan in the slot. Denver will probably still select a cornerback in April’s NFL draft to add more depth to the position.

After parting ways with A.J. Bouye earlier this offseason, the Broncos had cornerback near the top of their offseason to-do list. Bringing in Darby helps the team shore up one of the team’s biggest positions of need.

Adding Darby was the second move general manager George Paton made on Monday. Denver also re-signed defensive lineman Shelby Harris to a three-year contract. We are tracking all of the Broncos’ free agency moves on this page.
