The NFL has approved a 17th game for the 2021 schedule.

After a year of exercising the option to have a 17th game and approving the formula for the 17th game, the NFL is finally going ahead with an odd number of games to its annual slate.

As it stands, here is the formula, which involves same-place finishers from 2020, and appears to be modeling after the 2019 schedule's inter-conference matchups.

NFC East at AFC East

NFC North at AFC West

NFC South at AFC South

NFC West at AFC North

Here is a look at the NFL's 17th game per team, which features a few Super Bowl rematches.

7. Chicago Bears at Las Vegas Raiders

Not many people gave the Oakland Raiders a chance in Week 5, when they headed over to London for a game against the Bears—a team with a stout, top 5 defense. However, Raiders rookie running back Josh Jacobs' 123 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries helped teach the Bears a proper lesson about the unknown in the NFL. 11. Carolina Panthers at Houston Texans

(2-2. Last week: 21)

It's great that Kyle Allen has proven to be either an able backup or future long-term starter, depending on Cam Newton's health and contract situation. But the real story in Carolina's 16-10 win over the Texans was a defense that limited the usually incendiary Deshaun Watson to 21 completions in 33 attempts for just 160 yards, with six sacks. Allen did become the first quarterback since Carson Wentz with no interceptions and three wins in his first three NFL starts, and running back Christian McCaffrey proved once again why he's one of the two or three most valuable running backs in the NFL. But if Carolina's defense keeps coming along, the Newton-less Panthers ascending up the NFC South ladder would be one of the most interesting stories in the NFL this season. Carolina leads the season series 3-2.
