Unlucky 13! Si Woo Kim cards highest recorded score at TPC Southwind on par 3
The 11th hole at TPC Southwind, a smaller copy of the famous No. 17 hole at TPC Sawgrass, requires golfers to shoot over water onto an island green with a small bunker guarding the front edge.
In the first three rounds of WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, only six shots landed in the water. On Sunday, golfer Si Woo Kim shot five in a row into the water, scoring a 13 on the par 3.
Kim's 13 was the highest score recorded at TPC Southwind in a PGA Tour event, and the highest on a par 3 on PGA Tour in any tournament (not including majors) since 1983.
After Kim's first shot landed in the water, he began to shoot from the tee box where female golfers hit at TPC Southwind — 96 yards from the hole. He missed the green four more times from that spot before landing in the rough about 21 feet from the hole. From there, Kim pitched to within a foot of the flag for a tap-in 13 on the hole.
Kim came into Sunday 5 over. After his 13, he finished with four birdies and a double bogey to finish the tournament 13 over.
