The Los Angeles Rams traded wide receiver Robert Woods to the Tennessee Titans, a source confirmed to The Athletic. Going back to the Rams is a 2023 6th-round pick.

Woods, 29, tore his ACL during practice last November, ending his season. He played nine games, recording 45 receptions, 556 yards and four touchdowns.

The Rams trading Woods is seen as a move to clear salary after the team signed wide receiver Allen Robinson on March 17. The Rams agreed to a three-year deal with former Bears No. 1 wide receiver, a source confirmed to The Athletic. Per multiple reports, the deal is worth $46.5 million, and includes $30.7 million guaranteed.

The Rams traded Robert Woods, a core leader, to the Titans. Here's why

Was this trade surprising?

Jourdan Rodrigue, Rams beat writer: Trading Woods seemed all but inevitable when the Rams signed Robinson in free agency. There was not going to be a scenario in which the team kept three $12 million-plus receivers on their roster, and Woods' trade means the team saves a cash and cap total of around $10 million in 2022, despite incurring about an $8 million dead money hit. Still, the reverberations of a move like this will be felt because of Woods' presence in the locker room and in the community of his native Los Angeles.
