Free-agent center JaVale McGee has agreed to a three-year, $20.1 million contract to join the Dallas Mavericks, sources told The Athletic on Thursday. The veteran spent last season with Phoenix, averaging 9.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks.
McGee, 34, has been a part of three championship teams, twice with Golden State (2017, 2018) and with the Lakers (2020). The 7-footer brings size in the paint that the Mavericks lacked last season.
McGee, a first-round pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, has averaged 1.5 blocks and 57.6 percent from the field throughout his 15-year career.
Led by Luka Doncic, Dallas went 52-30 last season, finishing fourth in the Western Conference. The Mavericks advanced to the Western Conference semifinals before losing to the Warriors in six games.
