Consider DK Metcalf's hold-in with the Seahawks over.

The fourth-year wide receiver on Thursday agreed to a massive contract extension with the team through the 2025 season. The deal includes the largest signing bonus in NFL history for a wideout.

The Ole Miss product, who has 3,170 yards and 29 touchdowns receiving in three seasons with Seattle, will now be paid like one of the game's top players at his position, the value for which has been overhauled and rewritten several times this offseason by Davante Adams, Cooper Kupp, Tyreek Hill and others.

The move also works out well for the Seahawks; Metcalf will continue to be a part of a rebuilding team that moved on from quarterback Russell Wilson in the offseason. The record signing bonus will be prorated over the course of the extension.

Here's everything you need to know about Metcalf's record-setting extension with the Seahawks, and what it means for him and the team moving forward:

DK Metcalf contract details

Per multiple reports, Metcalf agreed to a three-year, $72 million contract extension with Seattle through the 2025 season. Of that total, $58.2 million is guaranteed. The pact includes a $30 million signing bonus — the biggest ever for a receiver.

Metcalf has said since May that he intended to sign a new deal with the Seahawks in this, the final year of his rookie contract (and the first year he can renegotiate it).

"I will say, we're going to get something done," Metcalf said at the time. "I think I'm going to be in Seattle for the next coming years."

That prediction came true Thursday with the extension.

DK Metcalf's stats

Metcalf has been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL since his rookie season in 2019. He ranks 11th in receiving yards over the past three seasons, and he ranks at or near the top of every major receiving category among receivers taken in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Year Catches Yards TDs
2019 58 900 7
2020 83 1,303 10
2021 75 967 12
Total 216 3,170 29

Why did DK Metcalf sign an extension with the Seahawks?

Metcalf could have played his final season in Seattle in 2022 and then looked elsewhere as an unrestricted free agent ahead of the 2023 season. In that scenario, however, Metcalf would have been paid only a $3.99 million base salary in 2022, not including a $338,827 bonus.

With the extension, he now becomes one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL, with an average annual value (AAV) of $24 million that rivals those of other receivers signed to massive contracts this offseason. His $30 million signing bonus is the highest in NFL history for a receiver.

Player Length Salary AAV Guaranteed
Tyreek Hill 4 years $120 million $30 million $72.2 million
Davante Adams 5 years $141 million $28 million $65.7 million
Cooper Kupp 3 years $80 million $26.7 million $75 million
Stefon Diggs 4 years $104 million $26 million $70 million
A.J. Brown 4 years $100 million $25 million $57.22 million
DK Metcalf 3 years $72 million* $24 million $58.2 million
Terry McLaurin 3 years $71 million $23.33 million $53 million

* Includes a $30 million signing bonus, highest ever for receiver

Metcalf clearly will be considered a cornerstone of Seattle's rebuild in 2022 and beyond (Seattle reportedly turned down hefty trade offers from the Jets and other teams). It remains to be seen whether Seattle can get him the ball adequately in 2022. Geno Smith and Drew Lock are battling for the starting QB position after Seattle traded Wilson to the Broncos.

It stands to reason that Seattle could be looking for a new quarterback next offseason if neither one works out. It could make another trade or draft a QB among a group that's headed by C.J. Stroud of Ohio State and Bryce Young of Alabama.

Either way, look for Seattle to ensure its star receiver produces at a level that's commensurate with his new contract.
