Bills’ Dawson Knox on extension: ‘I wanted to be here for as long as I possibly could’

Dawson Knox was signed to a four-year contract extension by the Buffalo Bills. He’s not going anywhere for a long time.

That’s exactly what the tight end wanted.

After the team announced his new contract going forward, Knox said he wouldn’t want to play anywhere else. Staying with the Bills was an easy decision for him.

“Very, very excited. Just very thankful to the Pegulas and to Brandon Beane and just my agent for getting everything going,” Knox said. “I mean, I love the city of Buffalo. It couldn’t be a better football city. I fell in love with the fans, with just the culture here. So, I knew I wanted to be here for as long as I possibly could be.”

Buffalo selected Knox out of Ole Miss at the 2019 NFLd raft. He had a slow start to his career but broke out last season. Knox put up 49 catches for 587 yards with nine touchdowns.

That’ll help Knox feel welcomed in western New York.

But so did the reaction Buffalo gave him upon hearing the news of his brother recently passing away unexpectedly. The community rallied around him and Knox said he was thankful–but he was not surprised by the way he was supported.

Moving forward, things will hopefully continue to get even better for Knox. New Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey recently teased that this might exactly be the case for the 25-year-old as well.

“You constantly want to expand that role as much as you can to maximize what he can do,” Dorsey said via video conference. ”I think there’s definitely things we want to see him do more and more of, and expand that role as much as we can to really kind of push him to the best player he could possibly be.”
