With the World Series now in the rearview, it's time to shift to MLB offseason mode, and it promises to be another busy winter of free agency shuffling and blockbuster trades as teams look to shore up their roster for the 2023 season.

The first major milestone of the offseason occurs five days after the end of the World Series with the deadline for teams to extend qualifying offers to free agents, players to exercise opt-out clauses, and club, player and mutual contract options to be sorted out.

To set the stage for the offseason to come, we've provided a team-by-team breakdown of each team's offseason shopping list, notable free agents, players with contract options and potential non-tender cuts while also highlighting one key early roster decision the team will need to make before free agency kicks into gear.

Let this serve as a reference point for what will be a flurry of activity a few days from now, and here's to another exciting offseason.

Arizona Diamondbacks

1 of 30

    Carson Kelly
    Lachlan Cunningham/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Closer
    2. Setup Man
    3. Catcher
    4. Shortstop (short-term stopgap)

Notable Free Agents: SP Zach Davies, RP Noé Ramirez, RP JB Wendelken

Contract Options: RP Ian Kennedy ($4M mutual option/$250K buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: C Carson Kelly ($4.1M projected), RP Caleb Smith ($2.4M projected), OF Jordan Luplow ($2M projected), RP Reyes Moronta ($2M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: The biggest in-house decision for the D-backs is whether to bring back catcher Carson Kelly. The 28-year-old hit .211 with a 76 OPS+ in 354 plate appearances while earning $3.3 million in 2022, and while he has shown solid pop in the past and is controllable through 2024, the front office has already indicated they will explore potential upgrades.

Atlanta Braves

2 of 30

    Dansby Swanson

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Shortstop
    2. Left fielder
    3. Middle reliever
    4. Starting pitcher (depth)

Notable Free Agents: SS Dansby Swanson, RP Kenley Jansen, OF Adam Duvall, RP Jesse Chavez, RP Darren O'Day, OF Robbie Grossman

Contract Options: SP Jake Odorizzi ($12.5M player option/$6.25M buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: RP Tyler Matzek ($1.8M projected), OF Guillermo Heredia ($1.1M projected), RP Silvino Bracho ($900K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: It's going to be interesting to see how Jake Odorizzi's player option unfolds. His $12.5 million option is likely more than he would receive on the open market, but when you factor in his massive $6.25 million buyout, he could still come away with a larger overall payday if he opts out and signs a new deal for $8-10 million.

Baltimore Orioles

3 of 30

    Jordan Lyles
    Sarah Stier/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Starting pitcher (No. 1 starter type)
    2. Starting pitcher (No. 3/4 starter type)
    3. Middle infielder
    4. Veteran reliever

Notable Free Agents: 2B Rougned Odor, C Robinson Chirinos, 1B Jesús Aguilar

Contract Options: SP Jordan Lyles ($11M club option/$1M buyout)

    Non-Tender Candidates: C Cam Gallagher ($1M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Manager Brandon Hyde praised the veteran leadership that Jordan Lyles provided to a young staff this season, and while his numbers don't jump off the page, there's value in his team-high 179 innings and respectable 4.42 ERA over 32 starts. Don't rule out the O's exercising that $11 million club option.

Boston Red Sox

4 of 30

    Xander Bogaerts

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Multiple starting pitchers
    2. Middle infielder
    3. Closer
    4. Catcher
    5. Corner outfielder
    6. Multiple relievers

Notable Free Agents: SS Xander Bogaerts, SP Nathan Eovaldi, DH J.D. Martinez, SP Michael Wacha, SP Rich Hill, RP Matthew Strahm, OF Tommy Pham

Contract Options: SP James Paxton ($4M player option/no buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: RP Ryan Brasier ($2.3M projected), OF Franchy Cordero ($1.5M projected), RP Josh Taylor ($1.1M projected), IF Yu Chang ($900K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Assuming Xander Bogaerts opts out of his contract as expected, the solution for the Red Sox could be as easy as shifting Trevor Story from second base back to his natural position. Boston would then need to find a way to make up for Bogaerts' offense elsewhere, with a corner outfielder looking like the obvious target.

Chicago Cubs

5 of 30

    Willson Contreras
    Andy Lyons/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Starting pitcher (No. 1/2 starter type)
    2. Middle infielder
    3. First baseman
    4. Closer

Notable Free Agents: C Willson Contreras

Contract Options: SP Wade Miley ($10M mutual option/$1M buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: DH Franmil Reyes ($6M projected), RP Steven Brault ($1.7M projected), SP/RP Alec Mills ($800K projected), RP Brad Wieck ($800K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Did the Cubs see enough out of Franmil Reyes after he was claimed off waivers on Aug. 8 to bring him back? The 27-year-old hit .234/.301/.389 with eight doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI in 48 games with the North Siders, and he's just a year removed from a 30-homer season.

Chicago White Sox

6 of 30

    José Abreu
    Quinn Harris/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Second baseman
    2. Corner outfielder
    3. Starting pitcher (No 4/5 starter type)

Notable Free Agents: 1B José Abreu, SP Johnny Cueto, SS Elvis Andrus, IF Josh Harrison

Contract Options: OF AJ Pollock ($10M club option/$5M buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: OF Adam Engel ($2.3M projected), RP Kyle Crick ($1.5M projected), RP José Ruiz ($1M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: With José Abreu expected to sign elsewhere, Andrew Vaughn can finally shift back to his natural position of first base and Eloy Jiménez can then take over as the team's primary designated hitter. That would make a corner outfielder the most obvious addition outside of finding an everyday second baseman, especially if AJ Pollock is cut loose on a $5 million buyout.

Cincinnati Reds

7 of 30

    Luis Cessa
    Andy Lyons/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Veteran starting pitcher
    2. Outfielder
    3. Lefty reliever

Notable Free Agents: IF Donovan Solano, RP Hunter Strickland, RP Justin Wilson, 1B Colin Moran

Contract Options: SP Mike Minor ($13M club option/$1M buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: SP Luis Cessa ($2.6M projected), RP Buck Farmer ($1.4M projected), RP Jeff Hoffman ($1.2M projected), SP Justin Dunn ($1.1 M projected), RP Derek Law ($900K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Luis Cessa threw the ball well after moving into the starting rotation, including a 3.65 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over his final seven starts. His $2.6 million arbitration projection might seem like a no-brainer on paper, but this is the same Reds team that gave Wade Miley away for nothing last winter, so don't be surprised if he's non-tendered.

Cleveland Guardians

8 of 30

    Austin Hedges
George Kubas/Diamond Images via Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Catcher (stopgap to Bo Naylor)
    2. Designated hitter
    3. Lefty reliever

Notable Free Agents: C Austin Hedges, RP Bryan Shaw

    Contract Options: None

Non-Tender Candidates: C Luke Maile ($1.3M projected), RP Anthony Gose ($800K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: The catcher situation will be the big storyline of the offseason for the Guardians. The light-hitting duo of Austin Hedges and Luke Maile could both be playing elsewhere in 2023, but they will need to find some sort of stopgap to allow Bo Naylor to ease into the starting role.

Colorado Rockies

9 of 30

    Dinelson Lamet
    Michael Owens/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Shortstop
    2. Multiple starting pitchers
    3. Setup reliever
    4. Outfielder

Notable Free Agents: SS José Iglesias, SP Chad Kuhl, SP José Ureña, RP Alex Colome, RP Carlos Estévez

Contract Options: OF Charlie Blackmon ($15M player option/no buyout), RP Scott Oberg ($8M club option/no buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: SP/RP Dinelson Lamet ($4.8M projected), IF/OF Garrett Hampson ($2.1M projected), RP Tyler Kinley ($1.3M projected), RP Ty Blach ($800K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Dinelson Lamet is not far removed from finishing fourth in NL Cy Young voting during the 2020 season. However, his inability to stay healthy continues to be an issue. He had a 4.05 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 20 innings after the Rockies claimed him off waivers on Aug. 5, and his boom-or-bust potential could be enough for Colorado to tender him a contract.

Detroit Tigers

10 of 30

    Jeimer Candelario
Brandon Sloter/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Corner outfielder
    2. Catcher
    3. Third base (if Candelario is non-tendered)
    4. Starting pitcher (No. 3/4 starter type)

Notable Free Agents: RP Andrew Chafin, C Tucker Barnhart, RP Daniel Norris

Contract Options: 2B Jonathan Schoop ($7.5M player option/no buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: 3B Jeimer Candelario ($7M projected), IF Harold Castro ($2.6M projected), OF Victor Reyes ($2.2M projected), RP Rony Garcia ($1M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Once viewed as a long-term building block, Jeimer Candelario hit just .217/.272/.361 for an 83 OPS+ with 13 home runs, 50 RBI and 0.5 WAR in 124 games this past season. The 28-year-old was a 3.8-WAR player in 2021, but his lackluster follow-up and high arbitration figure could lead to a non-tender.

Houston Astros

11 of 30

    Trey Mancini
David Durochik/Diamond Images via Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. First baseman
    2. Setup reliever
    3. Catcher

Notable Free Agents: RP Rafael Montero, DH Michael Brantley, 1B Yuli Gurriel, IF/OF Aledmys Díaz, C Christian Vázquez, C Jason Castro

Contract Options: SP Justin Verlander ($25M player option/no buyout), RP Will Smith ($13M club option/$1M buyout), 1B Trey Mancini ($10M mutual option/$250K buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: OF Mauricio Dubón ($1.2M projected), RP Blake Taylor ($800K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: With Yuli Gurriel coming off a down year and headed for free agency, the Astros and Trey Mancini face an interesting decision with his $10 million mutual option. Mutual options are almost always rejected by one side, but this looks like a rare example of a situation that could make sense for everyone involved.

Kansas City Royals

12 of 30

    Nicky Lopez
    Ron Schwane/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Veteran starting pitcher
    2. Corner outfielder
    3. Setup reliever
    4. Middle infielder

Notable Free Agents: SP Zack Greinke

    Contract Options: None

Non-Tender Candidates: 2B Nicky Lopez ($3.4M projected), RP Amir Garrett (2.6M projected), 1B Ryan O'Hearn ($1.5M projected), RP Josh Staumont ($1M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: After a 4.3-WAR season in 2021, infielder Nicky Lopez earned $2.55 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility. Now he's projected to earn north of $3 million after hitting a dismal .227 with a 58 OPS+ in 141 games in 2022. With Bobby Witt Jr. occupying one spot on the left side of the infield, Adalberto Mondesi back healthy, and Michael Massey showing promise, Lopez could be a non-tender casualty.

Los Angeles Angels

13 of 30

    Michael Lorenzen
    Ronald Martinez/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Starting pitcher (No. 3/4 starter type)
    2. Closer
    3. Setup reliever
    4. Middle infielder

Notable Free Agents: SP Michael Lorenzen, RP Archie Bradley, IF Matt Duffy

    Contract Options: None

    Non-Tender Candidates: C Chad Wallach ($800K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: The Angels took care of their biggest pending arbitration situation when they signed Shohei Ohtani to a one-year, $30 million deal to buy out his final year of club control. There's not much to be decided as far as other arbitration-eligible players or contract options, so the focus can quickly shift to free agency and shoring up the pitching staff. Will they also make a run at one of the top-tier shortstops?

Los Angeles Dodgers

14 of 30

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Middle infielder
    2. Closer
    3. Starting pitcher (No. 2/3 starter type)
    4. Outfielder
    5. Utility infielder

Notable Free Agents: SS Trea Turner, SP Clayton Kershaw, SP Tyler Anderson, SP Andrew Heaney, RP Chris Martin, RP Craig Kimbrel, OF Joey Gallo, OF Kevin Pillar, RP Tommy Kahnle

Contract Options: 3B Justin Turner ($16M club option/$2M buyout), SP Danny Duffy ($7M club option/no buyout), IF Hanser Alberto ($2M club option/$250K buyout), RP Jimmy Nelson ($1.1M club option/no buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: CF Cody Bellinger ($18.1M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: The Dodgers could potentially trim $32.1 million from their projected payroll by buying out Justin Turner and non-tendering Cody Bellinger. With Miguel Vargas waiting in the wings at third base and Bellinger turning in another disappointing season in 2022, it's not at all out of the realm of possibility.

Miami Marlins

15 of 30

    Brian Anderson
    Mitchell Layton/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Catcher
    2. Multiple power hitters
    3. Setup reliever

    Notable Free Agents: None

Contract Options: IF Joey Wendle ($6.3M mutual option/$75K buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: IF Joey Wendle ($5.4M projected), 3B/OF Brian Anderson ($5.2M projected), C Jacob Stallings ($3.3M projected), SP Elieser Hernandez ($1.8M projected), RP Cole Sulser ($1M projected), RP Jeff Brigham ($800K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Joey Wendle led all Marlins position players with 2.5 WAR in 2022, and his ability to play all over the infield makes him extremely valuable. He has a $6.3 million mutual option, but he's also controllable via arbitration for one more year if that option is declined. The most likely outcome is that the team declines his end of the option, pays his $75K buyout, and brings him back for slightly less via arbitration.

Milwaukee Brewers

16 of 30

    Kolten Wong

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Catcher
    2. Third baseman
    3. Designated hitter
    4. Setup reliever

Notable Free Agents: C Omar Narváez, IF Jace Peterson, DH Andrew McCutchen, RP Taylor Rogers, OF Jonathan Davis

Contract Options: 2B Kolten Wong ($10M club option/$2M buyout), RP Brad Boxberger ($3M club option/$750K buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: SP Adrian Houser ($3.6M projected), C Victor Caratini ($2.8M projected), RP Matt Bush ($2M projected), RP Trevor Gott ($1.4M projected), RP Luis Perdomo ($1M projected), RP Jandel Gustave ($900K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: With Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta, Eric Lauer and Aaron Ashby all penciled into rotation spots, right-hander Adrian Houser could be a non-tender casualty. The 29-year-old had a 3.22 ERA in a career-high 142.1 innings in 2021, but he regressed to a 4.73 ERA in 102.2 frames this season. He's controllable through 2024, so the Brewers may be able to find a trade partner before the non-tender deadline.

Minnesota Twins

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Starting pitcher (No. 2/3 starter type)
    2. Catcher
    3. Utility infielder

Notable Free Agents: SS Carlos Correa, SP Dylan Bundy, SP Chris Archer, C Gary Sánchez, 1B Miguel Sanó, RP Michael Fulmer, SP Aaron Sanchez

    Contract Options: None

Non-Tender Candidates: RP Emilio Pagan ($3.7M projected), RP Jorge Alcala ($800K projected), RP Cody Stashak ($800K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Veterans Dylan Bundy (29 GS, 4.89 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 140.0 IP) and Chris Archer (25 GS, 4.56 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 102.2 IP) were both passable members of the starting rotation, but cutting ties with both of them rather than picking up their club options frees up money to pursue potential upgrades.

New York Mets

18 of 30

    Jacob deGrom

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Multiple starting pitchers
    2. Center fielder
    3. Multiple setup relievers
    4. Fourth outfielder

Notable Free Agents: SP Jacob deGrom, OF Brandon Nimmo, SP Chris Bassitt, SP Taijuan Walker, RP Adam Ottavino, RP Seth Lugo, RP Trevor May, SP Trevor Williams, RP Joely Rodríguez, OF Tyler Naquin, RP Chasen Shreve, RP Tommy Hunter

Contract Options: SP Carlos Carrasco ($14M club option/$3M buyout), RP Mychal Givens ($3.5M mutual option/$1.5M buyout), RP John Curtiss ($775K club option/no buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: 1B/OF Dominic Smith ($4M projected), C Tomas Nido ($1.6M projected), SP Joey Lucchesi ($1.15M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: With so many moving parts in the rotation, the Mets might be willing to spend $14 million to shore up at least one spot on the staff behind Max Scherzer going into the offseason by bringing back Carlos Carrasco.

New York Yankees

19 of 30

    Aaron Judge
    Bob Levey/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Starting pitcher (No. 3/4 starter type)
    2. Corner outfielder
    3. Setup reliever

Notable Free Agents: OF Aaron Judge, 1B Anthony Rizzo, SP Jameson Taillon, OF Andrew Benintendi, RP Chad Green, RP Aroldis Chapman, RP Miguel Castro, RP Zack Britton, DH Matt Carpenter, UT Marwin González

    Contract Options: None

Non-Tender Candidates: RP Lou Trivino ($4.2M projected), OF Tim Locastro ($1.2M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: No decision for the Yankees will be bigger than how much they're willing to spend to bring back Aaron Judge, but they do have an intriguing call to make on Lou Trivino in arbitration. He had a 1.66 ERA in 25 appearances after coming over from Oakland in the Frankie Montas deal, but he struggled to a 6.47 ERA prior to the trade. His 3.34 FIP with the Yankees also painted a less rosy picture of his performance.

Oakland Athletics

20 of 30

    Tony Kemp
    Lachlan Cunningham/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Third baseman
    2. Outfielder
    3. Veteran starter
    4. Setup reliever

Notable Free Agents: IF/OF Chad Pinder

    Contract Options: None

Non-Tender Candidates: 2B/OF Tony Kemp ($3.9M projected), RP Austin Pruitt ($1.2M projected), RP Deolis Guerra ($900K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Tony Kemp was a 3.4-WAR player in 2021 on the strength of a terrific .382 on-base percentage, but he hit just .235/.307/.334 in 558 plate appearances this past season. His $3.9 million arbitration projection might not seem like much, but it's a figure the tight-pursed Athletics might not be willing to pay.

Philadelphia Phillies

21 of 30

    Jean Segura
    Mitchell Leff/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Shortstop
    2. Closer
    3. Starting pitcher (No. 3/4 starter type)
    4. Outfielder

Notable Free Agents: 2B Jean Segura, SP Noah Syndergaard, SP Zach Eflin, SP Kyle Gibson, RP David Robertson, RP Brad Hand, RP Corey Knebel

    Contract Options: None

Non-Tender Candidates: IF/OF Yairo Muñoz ($1M projected), RP Sam Coonrod ($800K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Second baseman Jean Segura has been a steady contributor in his four seasons with the Phillies, hitting .281/.337/.418 for a 102 OPS+ while averaging 3.2 WAR per 162 games. However, his $17 million club option was above his market value and the team opted instead for a $1 million buyout. The Phillies could now opt to shift Bryson Stott to second base to pursue one of the market's top shortstops.

Pittsburgh Pirates

22 of 30

    Kevin Newman
    Justin Berl/Getty Images

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Catcher
    2. Veteran starting pitcher
    3. Corner outfielder
    4. Designated hitter

Notable Free Agents: OF Ben Gamel, C Roberto Pérez

    Contract Options: None

Non-Tender Candidates: 2B Kevin Newman ($2.8M projected), RP Robert Stephenson ($1.9M projected), OF Miguel Andujar ($1.7M projected), RP Duane Underwood Jr. ($1M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Infielder Kevin Newman has hit a punchless .240/.283/.323 for a 66 OPS+ in 1,035 plate appearances since his stellar rookie season in 2019. With Oneil Cruz taking over at shortstop and Rodolfo Castro, Liover Peguero and Nick Gonzales all in the mix for playing time at second base going forward, cutting him loose and saving a couple of million dollars seems like a logical move.

San Diego Padres

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Multiple starting pitchers
    2. Corner outfielder

Notable Free Agents: LF Jurickson Profar, RP Robert Suárez, 1B/OF Wil Myers, SP Sean Manaea, SP Mike Clevinger, 1B Josh Bell, IF Brandon Drury, RP Pierce Johnson, RP Craig Stammen

Contract Options: SP/RP Nick Martinez ($6.5M player option/$1.5M buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: C Jorge Alfaro ($3.6M projected), RP Austin Adams ($1M projected), RP Jose Castillo ($900K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Nick Martinez and Robert Suárez both joined the Padres last offseason after spending multiple years in Japan. They now have an opportunity for a more lucrative payday on the open market. Martinez might prefer a place where he's guaranteed a rotation spot, but retaining Suárez should be a top priority for San Diego.

San Francisco Giants

Notable Free Agents: SP Carlos Rodón, OF Joc Pederson, 1B Brandon Belt, RP Dominic Leone, RP José Álvarez

Contract Options: 3B Evan Longoria ($13M club option/$5M buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: RP Jharel Cotton ($1.1M projected), RP Zack Littell ($900K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: The Giants have not been shy about handing out qualifying offers, with Kevin Gausman and Brandon Belt accepting theirs in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Carlos Rodón is a slam dunk to receive one after he inevitably opts out of the second season of his two-year deal, but All-Star Joc Pederson is a tough call after leading the Giants with a 144 OPS+ and 23 home runs playing on a one-year, $6 million deal.

Contract Options: SP Chris Flexen ($8M player option/no buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: SP Luke Weaver ($3M projected), C Tom Murphy ($1.9M projected), IF Abraham Toro ($1.4M projected), RP Ryan Borucki ($1.1M projected), RP Casey Sadler ($1.025M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: The emergence of catcher Cal Raleigh could make Tom Murphy expendable, though his $1.9 million arbitration figure is not prohibitive by any means. A dislocated shoulder limited Murphy to 14 games in 2022, but he did hit .303/.439/.455 in 42 plate appearances and would be an appealing buy-low candidate if he does reach free agency.

    Contract Options: None

Non-Tender Candidates: RP Chris Stratton ($3.5M projected), RP Alex Reyes ($2.85M projected), RP Genesis Cabrera ($1.2M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Hard-throwing Alex Reyes converted 29 of 34 save chances with a 3.24 ERA and 11.8 K/9 in 2021, earning a spot on the NL All-Star team in the process, but he missed the entire 2022 season after suffering a torn labrum. He has undergone three major arm surgeries in the past five years, and his progress toward a healthy return will determine whether he's tendered a contract.

Non-Tender Candidates: 1B Ji-Man Choi ($4.5M projected), SP Ryan Yarbrough ($4.2M projected), RP Ryan Thompson ($1.1M projected), OF Roman Quinn ($900K projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: The Rays lead all teams with 19 arbitration-eligible players, and in order to fit so many incremental raises onto their small-market payroll there will likely be a few unexpected roster casualties. Ji-Man Choi and Ryan Yarbrough look like the most obvious candidates to be cut loose based on their projected arbitration figures, though Choi could be flipped in a trade before the non-tender deadline.

Non-Tender Candidates: C Mitch Garver ($4.2M projected), RP Brett Martin ($1.5M projected), RP Dennis Santana ($1.1M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: The Rangers decided against trading Martín Pérez at the deadline, despite the fact that he was playing on a one-year, $4 million deal and they were not in contention. That's a clear indication they would like to keep him around in 2023 and beyond, and if any free agent is going to re-sign with his old team during the five-day exclusive negotiating window, he might be the best bet.

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Left-handed hitter
    2. Starting pitcher (No. 2/3 starter type)
    3. Setup reliever
    4. Fourth outfielder

Notable Free Agents: SP Ross Stripling, RP David Phelps, OF Jackie Bradley Jr.

Contract Options: RP Anthony Bass ($3M club option/$1M buyout)

Non-Tender Candidates: OF Raimel Tapia ($5.2M projected), RP Trevor Richards ($1.5M projected), OF Bradley Zimmer ($1.3M projected), RP Trent Thornton ($1.1M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: The Blue Jays are in serious need of a left-handed bat, so cutting ties with Raimel Tapia might seem counterproductive. The 28-year-old tallied 433 plate appearances in a fourth outfielder role, but his .265/.292/.380 line and 0.2 WAR simply don't warrant a projected $5.2 million salary.

Washington Nationals

    Offseason Shopping List
    1. Veteran starter
    2. Outfielder
    3. Setup reliever

Notable Free Agents: DH Nelson Cruz, 2B César Hernández, RP Erasmo Ramírez, RP Steve Cishek, SP Aníbal Sánchez, SP Joe Ross, RP Will Harris, RP Sean Doolittle

    Contract Options: None

Non-Tender Candidates: 1B Luke Voit ($8.2M projected), SP Erick Fedde ($3.6M projected), RP Victor Arano ($1M projected)

Key Early Roster Decision: Would a rebuilding Nationals team rather have Luke Voit or $8.2 million? It's a fair question to ask, and the answer could add an intriguing power bat to this year's free-agent crop if they decide to cut him loose. The 31-year-old is controllable through the 2024 season, so he is likely not going to be part of the next contending Nationals team either way.
