Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor underwent ankle surgery on Wednesday to repair an issue that limited him through most of the 2022 season, the running back told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

"That thing had a bunch of junk in there from a bunch of years," Taylor said of his ankle. "Just finally had to clean it out and make sure I'm good to go. We finally had the time to get it right, make sure I'm 100% ready to rock. That's all you can ask."

Taylor also projected that he will be back in time for next year's training camp.

"I'll be ready to go," he said.

Taylor suffered the initial injury in Week 4, missing two games before returning in Week 7. He was injured again in Week 15 and was placed on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain to end his season.

It represented a disappointing year for the running back—along with the many fantasy football managers who drafted him.

After leading the NFL with 1,811 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns in 2021, Taylor had just 861 yards and four touchdowns in 2022. He had 10 games of at least 100 rushing yards last year, averaging 106.5 per game. This past year, he topped the century mark just twice and averaged 78.3 per game.

The Colts suffered as well, finishing with a 4-12-1 record. Head coach Frank Reich was fired after Week 9, while interim coach Jeff Saturday didn't fare much better and ended the season with seven straight losses.

Indianapolis will look to bounce back in 2023, while Taylor is seeking a fresh start following the surgery.

"The number one thing is taking time to heal," he said. "The number two thing is relaxing, just mentally, after the type of season we had. Get healthy, decompress mentally. I'll be on my feet in no time."
