Report: Warriors bring back Payton II in trade

Gary Payton II was a key part of the Golden State Warriors’ championship team in 2022, contributing defense and other aspects to the team. Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Payton is headed back to the Warriors in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Warriors receive:

Blazers receive: 

  • Five future second-round picks

Payton signed with Portland in the offseason as a free agent, but missed the first 35 games of 2022-23 after having offseason surgery. He is averaging 4.1 ppg, 2.6 rpg and 1.5 apg in 17 mpg. In trading for Payton and trading away Wiseman in an earlier reported deal, the Warriors save some money in both trades.

Hornets deal Plumlee to Clippers, per reports

The Charlotte Hornets are dealing veteran center Mason Plumlee to the LA Clippers, per multiple reports. In the swap, the Hornets will receive veteran guard Reggie Jackson from the Clippers, who likely became expendable after the Clippers agreed to another reported deal earlier in the day.

Lakers reportedly pick up Bamba

The Los Angeles Lakers’ trade-centric makeover continued Thursday with a reported deal with the Orlando Magic, per multiple reports. In the swap, the Lakers acquire former lottery pick Mo Bamba from the Magic for Patrick Beverley, a future second-round pick and cash.

Bamba is a solid interior defender and is averaging 1.0 bpg this season and 1.4 bpg for his career. His addition to the Lakers paired with the reported move to pick up Jarred Vanderbilt from Utah in a three-team trade gives Los Angeles additional size and heft in the middle as it makes a Play-In Tournament push.

Pelicans part ways with Graham in reported trade

Devonte’ Graham, one of the Pelicans’ big free-agent signings in years past, is done in New Orleans, it seems. Per multiple reports, the Pelicans are trading Graham to the San Antonio Spurs for Josh Richardson and future Draft picks.

Clippers, Grizzlies add to backcourt in 3-team deal

Per multiple reports, the LA Clippers are adding to their backcourt in a three-team deal that also involves the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets. In the deal, the Rockets will send Eric Gordon to the Clippers, the Grizzlies will deal Danny Green to the Rockets and the Clippers will send John Wall to the Grizzlies.

Grizzlies receive:

Gordon is a veteran scorer and was a key part of Houston’s title-contending teams in the 2010s, he is averaging 13.1 ppg, 2.1 rpg and 2.9 apg while shooting 34.7% on 3-pointers. Wall is headed back to the Rockets, who bought him out of his contract in the offseason. Kennard is a valuable 3-point shooter and is averaging 7.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg and 1.1 apg this season while shooting 44.7% from deep. Green has been hurt much of this season but recently worked his way back into Memphis’ rotation.

Rockets reportedly deal Mathews, Fernando to Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are changing up the end of their bench a bit, per multiple reports, as they worked a trade with the Houston Rockets. In the deal, Atlanta sends Frank Kaminsky and Justin Holiday to Houston for Garrison Mathews, Bruno Fernando and two future second-round picks.

Report: Warriors trade Wiseman to Pistons in 3-team swap

Golden State has struggled to find its footing at times this season but has apparently agreed to a trade today. Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors are dealing James Wiseman to the Detroit Pistons as a part of a three-team trade that also involves the Atlanta Hawks. In the deal, the Hawks would pick up Saddiq Bey.

Warriors receive: 

  • Kevin Knox (via Pistons)

This season, Bey has transitioned from a starting lineup role to a reserve one, averaging 14.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg and 1.6 apg in 28.8 mpg, all of which were drop offs from his 2021-22 stats (16.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.8 apg). Wiseman has struggled with injuries throughout his time in Golden State and has played in 21 games for the team this season, averaging 6.9 ppg and 3.5 rpg and has not played in 17 of the team’s last 19 games.

Report: Thunder deal Bazely to Suns

The Phoenix Suns have made another trade a day after reportedly landing Kevin Durant. Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Phoenix is picking up Darius Bazley from the Oklahoma City Thunder for veteran big man Dario Saric.

Suns receive:

Bazley’s role decreased with the Thunder this year after he averaged 10.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg and 1.4 apg in 2021-22 to 5.4 ppg and 3.4 rpg this season. Saric has been a vital reserve for the Suns in 2020-21, but has been slow to regain his old form after suffering an ACL injury in the 2021 NBA Finals. He is averaging 5.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg and 1.5 apg this season.

Reports: Nuggets deal Hyland to Clippers

The LA Clippers have infused their roster with some youth in a trade with the Denver Nuggets. Per multiple reports, The Clippers are acquiring guard Bones Hyland from the Nuggets in exchange for two future second-round picks.

Clippers receive:

Nuggets receive: 

  • 2024 second-round pick
  • 2025 second-round pick

Hyland was an All-Rookie second teamer last season after averaging 10.1 ppg, 2.7 rpg and 2.8 apg for the Nuggets. His scoring has improved this season (12.1 ppg) and he has been a valuable reserve for Denver, which leads the Western Conference. The Clippers are 8 1/2 games behind the Nuggets for the No. 1 seed and are one game ahead of the seventh-seeded New Orleans Pelicans.

Westbrook reportedly interested in joining Clippers or Heat

Former All-Star Russell Westbrook was dealt as a part of a reported three-team swap that will land him with the Utah Jazz. However, the current Los Angeles Lakers guard is not expected to be with the Jazz for long and is widely expected to be bought out of his deal. If that happens, The Athletic reports Westbrook is interested in signing with the LA Clippers or Miami Heat as a free agent.

Pacers bring back Hill in reported trade

Former Indiana Pacers guard George Hill is headed back to his first NBA team. Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Milwaukee Bucks are trading Hill to Indiana for a second-round pick. Hill spent five of his first eight NBA seasons in Indiana (2011-16) and was a key player in the Pacers’ teams that reached back-to-back Eastern Conference finals in 2013 and ’14. He has been little used by the Bucks this season, averaging 5 ppg, 1.9 rpg and 2.5 apg.

Reports: Blazers get Thybulle, Sixers get McDaniels

Per multiple reports, the Portland Trail Blazers are making a move to add perimeter defense to their roster after reportedly dealing a defensive stopper a day earlier. The Blazers are set to add Philadelphia 76ers swingman Matisse Thybulle as a part of a three-team trade between Portland, Philadelphia and the Charlotte Hornets, per Keith Pompey of Philly.com.

Blazers receive:

  • Jalen McDaniels
  • 2024 second-round pick (via Knicks)
  • 2029 second-round pick (via Blazers)

Hornets receive:

The Blazers reportedly sent Josh Hart to the New York Knicks in a trade that netted them Cam Reddish and a future first-round pick. This season, Thybulle is averaging 2.7 ppg and 1.3 rpg in 12.1 minutes after posting 5.7 ppg and 2.3 rpg in 25.5 mpg last season. He is a two-time All-Defensive team member, making the second team in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

McDaniels, a fourth-year center, is averaging 10.6 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.0 apg and 1.2 spg — all career highs — and will serve as a valuable backup for 76ers star center Joel Embiid.

Reports: Lakers deal big man Bryant to Nuggets

The Los Angeles Lakers continued their roster remodel on trade deadline day by sending Thomas Bryant to the Denver Nuggets, per multiple reports. In the swap, the Lakers will receive three future second-round Draft picks and free up some frontcourt minutes for Jarred Vanderbilt, whom the team reportedly got in a trade on Wednesday.

Bucks reportedly trade for Crowder

Veteran forward Jae Crowder was reportedly dealt from the Phoenix Suns to the Brooklyn Nets in the Kevin Durant trade just hours ago. Apparently, he is on the move again. Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Crowder is heading to the Milwaukee Bucks for five second-round picks. Additionally, the Indiana Pacers are in the trade and will acquire Jordan Nwora and Serge Ibaka from Milwaukee and will also waive big man Goga Bitadze.

Pacers receive:

Crowder was coveted by several teams as the trade deadline approached because of his ability to defend on the perimeter and deliver timely scoring. He has not played in a game this season, but was a key part of Phoenix’s team that reached the NBA Finals in 2021 and had the NBA’s best regular season record in 2021-22.

Report: Celtics acquire Muscala from Thunder

The Celtics and Thunder have reportedly agreed to a trade that gives Boston some 3-point shooting and depth for the stretch run. Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Oklahoma City is trading Mike Muscala to Boston for two second-round picks and forward Justin Jackson.

Thunder receive:

Muscala, 6-foot-10, is a career 37.9% 3-point shooter and is shooting 39.4% from deep this season. Overall he is averaging 6.2 ppg and 3.1 apg as a reserve for the Thunder. A 10-year NBA veteran, Muscala has not been in the playoffs since 2020 with the Thunder. Jackson was acquired by the Celtics last season via the Phoenix Suns but has seen his role shrink considerably this season. He is averaging 0.9 ppg and playing 4.7 mpg in 23 games.

Haynes: Blazers take Lillard off table in trades

If the Portland Trail Blazers make any further trades in the hours leading up to the trade deadline, don’t expect to see franchise icon Damian Lillard in them. Per Chris Haynes of the NBA on TNT, the Blazers are making it clear to other teams that Lillard will unequivocally not be a part of any trade talks today. On Wednesday, the Blazers reportedly dealt guard Josh Hart to the New York Knicks for Cam Reddish and a future first-round pick.
