Sandin traded for Gustafsson with OFX bug

Rasmus Sandin was traded to the Washington Capitals by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday for Erik Gustafsson.

Toronto also received a first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, which Washington previously acquired.
Sandin has 20 points (four goals, 16 assists) in 52 games this season. The defenseman recently missed three games with a shoulder injury. The 22-year-old defenseman signed a two-year contract with the Maple Leafs on Sept. 22 and can become a restricted free agent after next season.
Selected by Toronto in the first round (No. 29) of the 2018 NHL Draft, Sandin has 48 points (10 goals, 38 assists) in 140 regular-season games and one goal in five Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Gustafsson has 38 points (seven goals, 31 assists) in 61 games this season. The 31-year-old defenseman signed a one-year contract with the Capitals on July 13, 2022, and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round (No. 93) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Gustafsson has 187 points (39 goals, 148 assists) in 370 regular-season games with the Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and Calgary Flames and eight points (one goal, seven assists) in 31 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Maple Leafs (37-15-8), who are second in the Atlantic Division, 15 points behind the first-place Boston Bruins and four points ahead of the third-place Tampa Bay Lightning, also acquired defenseman Luke Schenn from the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday for a third-round pick in the 2023 Draft. Schenn, who has 21 points (three goals, 18 assists) in 55 games this season, previously played with Toronto from 2008-12.

to the New York Islanders on Tuesday for a third-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. The 26-year-old had 21 points (12 goals, nine assists) in 58 games this season.
The Maple Leafs previously acquired defenseman Jake McCabe and forward Sam Lafferty from the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, and forwards Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari in a three-team trade with the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 17.
