Filip Hronek was traded to the Vancouver Canucks by the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.

The Red Wings received a conditional first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, which the Canucks acquired when they traded Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders, and a second-round pick in 2023 draft. The Red Wings also received a fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft. The first-round pick the Red Wings received could potentially move to the 2024 NHL Draft.
"We're really excited. He's a top-four defenseman, what's he got, 38-40 points?" Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said Thursday. "He's got a great shot]*
Hronek can become a restricted free agent after next season.
"We don't play those guys much but from what I've seen, he's just a two-way defenseman and he's physical and competitive and good defensively, so it's a good add for us," Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes said. "… I don't think we're crazy far out of competing and doing well, so for [management] to do that (trade), it's obviously encouraging and we just got to keep doing our jobs and trying to play hard."
The Red Wings (28-24-8) are five points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. The Canucks (24-31-5) are 19 points behind the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers for the two wild cards in the Western Conference.
