Houston Texans reach extension with Laremy Tunsil, make him highest-paid offensive tackle, per reports

Left tackle Laremy Tunsil is now the highest paid offensive tackle in NFL history, as the Houston Texans have signed him to three-year, $75 million extension, reports say.

NFL Network was first to report the deal.

The extension, which reportedly includes $50 million fully guaranteed and $60 million in total guarantees including signing bonuses, will make Tunsil the highest paid tackle in the league as he is set to make $25 million per season. He surpasses the San Francisco 49ers' Trent Williams, who makes $23.01 million per season. Tunsil was previously the the third-highest paid lineman.

Former head coach Lovie Smith praised Tunsil as one of the team's brightest players last season, as the team finished 3-13-1.

"He's as talented as a player as we have, and we're paying him that way," Smith said in November. "He's been great in the locker room, showing up every day and giving his all, each play, a good presence in the locker room, all those things. Guys, that's what they're looking for, a veteran that's been around and has played a high level for a long period of time."

The 28-year-old just finished his fourth season in Houston after he was traded from the Miami Dolphins in 2019, who selected him in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Tunsil shared his excitement on Twitter.
