Defending champion Warriors fight off elimination, force Game 6 vs. Lakers back in LA

The Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Lakers 121-106 Wednesday night, staving off elimination in the Western Conference semifinals.

Steph Curry had a game-high 27 points and eight assists for the Warriors, who at Chase Center in San Francisco cut their deficit to 3-2 in the best-of-seven NBA playoff series.

Andrew Wiggins added 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Warriors while Draymond Green had 20 points and 10 rebounds.

"They were awesome," Curry said during a postgame interview with TNT. "I mean, all the way up and down the roster, there were contributions."

Golden State maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half as the Lakers cut the deficit to nine points, but only briefly.

LeBron James had a team-high 25 points for the Lakers, who have two more chances to win the series.

Game 6 will be played Friday in Los Angeles.

"Honestly, I think the pressure's on them to protect their home court," Curry said. "We had pressure tonight to keep ourselves alive with our back against the wall and now it shifts."

Anthony Davis left the game with 7:36 left to play after he appeared to get hit in the head by the elbow of Warriors forward Kevon Looney. Davis left the court area with a member of the Lakers' staff.

TNT reported Davis eventually was put in a wheelchair and wore a towel over his head as he was taken away. He had 23 points and nine rebounds before the incident.

"He took a shot to the head. I just checked in on him, he seems to be doing really good already. That's just where he's at, that's the status of it right now," Lakers coach Darvin Ham said in a brief update on Davis after the game.

With a flurry of 3-pointers, the Warriors raced out to a 17-5 lead. They stayed hot from the outside, shooting 7-for-12 from 3-point range for the quarter.

But the Warriors led only 32-28 after one as Davis helped keep the Lakers close with 13 points in the quarter.

The Lakers pulled ahead at 34-32 on James' 3-pointer with 11:05 left in the half. A tight, back-and-forth affair ensued and the teams were tied 54-54 when Austin Reaves made a jumper with 4:37 left to play.

Then, a Golden State surge.

The Warriors closed out the half with a 16-5 run, capped by Curry's 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving Golden State a 70-59 lead at intermission.

At the half, Curry had 12 points and six assists for the Warriors, while Wiggins had 16 points and Green had 14 points.

Davis had 18 points at the half and James had 17 points for the Lakers.

The Warriors opened the second half with a 9-2 run and extended their lead to 18 points. They went up 79-61 on Wiggins' dunk with 9:10 left to play in the third quarter.
