Southampton Relegated To EFL Championship After 11 Seasons In Premier League

Southampton will play in the EFL Championship next season after the club's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Saturday.

A 2-0 defeat at home to Fulham left Ruben Selles' side eight points from safety with just two matches left to play.

Carlos Vinicius put Fulham ahead in the 48th minute, less than 60 seconds after a Carlos Alcaraz goal had been disallowed for offside at the other end of the field.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, playing for the first time since returning from an eight-game ban, scored Fulham's second on 72 minutes.

Southampton's relegation ends an 11-season run in the EPL.

The Saints had previously been founder members of the Premier League and spent 13 consecutive seasons in the competition between 1992 and 2005.

It took the club seven years to get back into the Premier League last time they were relegated from England's top division.
