NFL says Washington Commanders sale won't be voted on at owners meeting next week

As expected, the NFL ownership meeting in Minneapolis next week will not feature a vote on the sale of the Washington Commanders.

Josh Harris and his partners announced their purchase of the team from Dan and Tonya Snyder for a $6.05 billion pricetag in a purchase and sale agreement announced last Friday.

The league will provide ownership with an update, said league executive vice president of communications, public affairs and policy Jeff Miller. But the sale remains in the early stages of review by the league office and the NFL owners' finance committee.

"There is work that goes into that, and staff is doing that now," Miller said on a conference call with reporters.

Miller provided no timetable for the vote to formalize the change in ownership but added that it was a standard process, similar to other recent sales, and was being addressed "expeditiously."

In November, the Snyders announced they'd contracted Bank of America Securities to begin exploring "potential transactions involving the team." Harris, a D.C.-area native, quickly emerged as a possible suitor, having prior professional sports ownership experience with the NHL's New Jersey Devils and the NBA's Philadelphia Sixers.

Miller also said there is no update on the Mary Jo White report, saying the former chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will announce the findings of her investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct made against Snyder and the Commanders’ organization once it is completed.
