Viktor Hovland back on the course after Memorial win, but as a caddie

Fresh off his playoff victory at the Memorial Tournament, Viktor Hovland could be excused for sleeping in a little late on Monday morning.

However, there he was back on the course bright and early ... not to play, but to caddie for college teammate Zach Bauchou as he looks to play his way into the upcoming U.S. Open.

Ranked No. 5 in the world, Hovland had already locked up a spot in the Open, which will be played later this month at Los Angeles Country Club.

But Bachou, his former roommate and a second-team All-America golfer at Oklahoma State, can join the field if he successfully makes it through Monday's arduous final stage of qualifying − 18 holes at The Lakes Golf & Country Club in the morning and 18 more at Brookside Golf Club in the afternoon.

Hovland made it to the tee in plenty of time, dressed in shorts and wearing his Ping cap.

Of course it does help that the qualifying tournaments are also being played in the Columbus, Ohio, area − just a few miles from Muirfield Village Golf Club, where Hovland earned the biggest paycheck of his PGA Tour career on Sunday: $3.6 million.

Viktor Hovland won the Memorial Tournament on Sunday in a playoff over Denny McCarthy.
