In the opening round of the 2023 BMW Championship, Rory McIlroy shot a 5-under 65 and sits tied atop the leaderboard with Brian Harman after Thursday. This week will determine the final 30 players eligible to compete for the TOUR Championship next week at East Lake in Atlanta. Lucas Glover will look to make it three wins in a row on the PGA TOUR after capturing both the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week. His recent successes have pushed him from No. 49 to No. 4 in the FedExCup standings. Patrick Cantlay returns to defend his back-to-back BMW Championship wins after last week’s playoff defeat to Lucas Glover. This was one of seven top-four finishes this season as he looks to make it a three-peat at this event. Rory McIlroy played well for his T-3 finish in Memphis last week. He’s claimed top-10 finishes in all of his last seven starts and with three FedExCup Championships to his name, he knows what is required this time of year to outlast the best players in golf.
