Hungry for victory? Pop-Tarts Bowl will feature first edible mascot, real Pop-Tarts trophy

The No. 18 North Carolina State Wolfpack (9-3) and the Kansas State Wildcats (8-4) better be hungry for more than a win when they face off in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

The game, which kicks off Dec. 28 in Orlando, Florida, will feature the first edible mascot, according to Pop-Tarts. The winner will revel in celebration by eating the very large toaster treat. No word yet on what flavor it will be.

The Pop-Tarts mascot is an extension of the company's "Agents of Crazy Good" campaign, which created characters based off classic flavors, such as Frosted Strawberry and Brown Sugar Cinnamon. They appear in television commercials, social media content and at events.

"For sixty years, Pop-Tarts has sacrificed everything in the name of Crazy Good flavor, so why wouldn't that include our beloved football mascot, too?" Pop-Tarts senior director of marketing Heidi Ray said in a statement. "Since we announced our title sponsorship of the Pop-Tarts Bowl, fans have been speculating on the larger-than-life game day experiences we will be tackling, and this is the first of many traditions that fans can expect Pop-Tarts to upend on game day."

This is the first year Pop-Tarts will be the title sponsor of a college football bowl game. The game was established in 1990 in Miami as the Blockbuster Bowl. It has featured teams from the ACC and Big 12, along with Notre Dame. The event moved to Orlando in 2001 as the Visit Florida Tangerine Bowl and has spent time as the Champs Sports Bowl, Russell Athletic Bowl and, most recently, the Cheez-It Bowl.

NC State finished third in the ACC during a season in which Dave Doeren became the winningest coach in program history. Kansas State finished the season tied for fourth in the Big 12 and will be playing in its third consecutive bowl game.

Pop-Tarts Bowl trophy (toaster?) holds real Pop-Tarts

As the Pop-Tarts Bowl nears, organizers unveiled the trophy the Wolfpack or Wildcats will hoist at the end of the game. And it includes slots for two real Pop-Tarts.

The trophy is silver and has three tiers with designs of silver-wrapped Pop-Tarts surrounding it. A football at the top features two toaster-like slots that will hold the breakfast treats.

Fans can place Prop-Tart bets to win free Pop-Tarts

As an extra incentive to watch the Pop-Tarts Bowl, the breakfast pastry company said fans can participate in the Prop-Tarts campaign and make bets to win free Pop-Tarts.

There is a variety of eccentric off-field wager options, including what beverage will be dumped on the winning head coach and who will make history as the first person to take a bite out of the edible mascot.

Fans can make wagers via Prop-Tarts to win free Pop-Tarts while watching the Pop-Tarts Bowl between North Carolina State and Kansas State.

The prize is an 8-count box of Pop-Tarts per correct answer with the company offering 1 million Pop-Tarts total.

To make a bet, go to Prop-Tarts.com and place a wager before 5 p.m. ET on Dec. 28. The sooner a bet is placed, the higher chance it has of taking home some free Pop-Tarts.

For the actual game, Kansas State is favored by 2.5 points over North Carolina State with an over/under of 47.5, per the BetMGM college football odds.
