Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green was reinstated from his indefinite suspension on Saturday after 22 days and 12 games. The four-time All-Star didn't return to the court in the team's loss against the Toronto Raptors on Sunday and revealed recently that he nearly made a drastic decision during his suspension.
In a new edition of the Draymond Green Show, Golden State’s star suggests that Adam Silver talked him out of retirement: “I told him, ‘Adam this is too much for me…It’s all becoming too much for me – and I’m going to retire.’” Story on ESPN: https://t.co/He2qlfALBs

"I told him, 'Adam this is too much for me. ... This is too much. It's all becoming too much for me -- and I'm going to retire,'" Green said. "And Adam said, 'You're making a very rash decision and I won't let you do that.'"
The 33-year-old continued, saying that he and NBA commissioner Adam Silver had a "long, great conversation" that was "very helpful" to him.
"Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam who's more about helping you than hurting you; helping you than punishing you. He's more about the players," Green said.
Despite what many basketball fans may think of Green, it's refreshing to hear that Silver seems to have players' backs. The Michigan State product isn't the All-Star player he once was, but it would've been a shame to see his career end after the suspension stemming from his punch of Phoenix Suns center Jusif Nurkic in December.
The encounter with Nurkic was Green's second violent incident this season that resulted in a suspension, after he was docked five games for grabbing Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert and putting him in a chokehold during a game in November.
Following his month of counseling (with sessions expected to continue), the former Defensive Player of the Year is back with the Dubs and should be returning to game action soon. Green's averaged 9.7 points, 5.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds across 15 contests this season.
The Warriors started off hot with Green away from the team, winning five of their first six games but have dropped five of their last seven since then. Golden State is in 11th place in the Western Conference at 17-19, leaving them just outside of the current playoff picture as the regular season nears its halfway point.

Kevin Durant continues to climb up the NBA record books. On Sunday, as the Phoenix Suns took on the Dallas Mavericks, he even surpassed the opposing team's legend as he made history. Early in February, Durant became just the eighth player in NBA history to reach the 30,000-point mark. A couple of weeks later, he moved up to No. 14 on the all-time list for field goals made. Now, in their latest game against the Mavericks, the Suns forward broke Dirk Nowitzki's record for the eighth-most free throws made in league history. Durant entered the game tied with Nowitzki with 7,240 free throws made. KD finished with four free throws in the game, with his first make from the charity stripe coming late in the third quarter. After KD broke Nowitzki's record, the NBA immediately announced his accomplishment on social media and congratulated him. "Congrats to @easymoneysniper of the @suns for moving into 8th all-time in FREE THROWS MADE!" the NBA wrote in the caption of its post. Next up for Kevin Durant on the all-time free throws list is Michael Jordan, who made 7,327 free throws in his legendary NBA career. Durant is 84 free throws away from surpassing Jordan for the No. 7 spot, and since he's averaging nearly five free throws per game this 2024-25 season, there's a chance that he could break the tally of Chicago Bulls icon before the campaign ends. The Suns have 18 games remaining this season after Sunday's outing.
The New York Giants are about to begin a pivotal offseason for the franchise's future. If they make the right moves, they could very well be back in playoff contention in 2025. One of the biggest decisions the Giants have to make has to do with their future at quarterback. Many different options have been suggested for them. New York could choose to pursue a quarterback upgrade in free agency. Another route could be to trade up in the 2025 NFL draft to land either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. Regardless of which direction the Giants choose to go, they cannot afford to miss. A new prediction has suggested that New York could be the "best fit" for an enormous quarterback move. Tyler Dragon of USA Today has named the Giants as the "best fit" for free agent quarterback Sam Darnold. "In totality, Darnold’s 2024 season was much improved from what we’ve previously seen from the journeyman. Darnold has options. The Vikings could re-sign him, Seattle is rumored to be interested or maybe even the Giants," Dragon wrote. He continued on, stating clearly that he thinks Darnold should sign with New York. "I believe Darnold should return to New York, but this time in a blue uniform." Darnold has received a market value projection from Spotrac of just over $160 million on a four-year deal. That price tag would be worth it for the Giants. However, there will be other teams who could convince Darnold to sign with them instead. During the 2024 NFL season with the Minnesota Vikings, Darnold completed 66.2% of his passes for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are heading into Colorado for a must-win game, but they will once again be without Chris Tanev according to head coach Craig Berube. With the Maple Leafs looking to make a statement after the NHL Trade Deadline, they head into Colorado to take on the Avalanche in a must-win game for the losers of their last two games. They've had to deal with some injuries, as is par for the course this season, but Chris Tanev's is of utmost importance. He's been the glue that's held the Maple Leafs together and with his absence, the team feels lacking that defensive x-factor. Well, unfortunately for the team, he's going to miss another game according to head coach Craig Berube. It's a really bad sign for the Maple Leafs as they initially feared the worst when it came to Tanev, but then were relieved when it didn't appear serious. Missing five games is starting to get serious, and Toronto needs him healthy in order to be as successful as they have been. This season, Tanev has 17 points (2G, 15A) while doing his usual shot-blocking with 151 stoppers in 57 games and is in the first year of his six-year deal he signed with Toronto in the offseason. What does this mean for Toronto? It means Toronto is going to need newcomer Brandon Carlo to come in and pull his weight immediately. While he won't be with Tanev's partner Jake McCabe, no doubt the two will be paired together on the penalty kill, and it's imperative he does what he's done all season, shut opponents down. Given that Craig Berube relies so heavily on Tanev, isn't the best thing given his injury, but it's better to be safe than sorry, and it's a heck of a lot better deploying Carlo than Conor Timmins; though the team doesn't have to worry about him anymore. It also means Toronto is going to be in tough against a Colorado team that added a bunch of pieces and is looking to keep their playoff hopes secure.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have adopted the philosophy of building within the trenches ever since Omar Khan was hired as the general manager. After two offseasons of completely overhauling the offensive line, it's time for the team to address the interior of the defensive line. The franchise is expected to select a defensive lineman early on in the 2025 NFL draft, but they could still go to free agency for depth. There are quite a few options out there for the Steelers, including reuniting with a former player for another ride. After the San Francisco 49ers cut Javon Hargrave, he was immediately seen as a great option for the Steelers to help with both the run defense and the pass rush. However, Pittsburgh has another option that might have just popped up on their radar. The Steelers are always keeping up with cap casualties to see who they can get as a value signing, and Maliek Collins was just freed up by the 49ers, along with Hargrave. The soon-to-be 30-year-old has bounced around the league while playing multiple positions in the interior part of the defensive line. Collins has played some of his best football over the previous two years, as he racked up five sacks in each season to tie a career-high, as well as amassing 41 and 33 tackles during the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. Despite being cut to save some cap space, it seems like the veteran still has quite a bit of fuel left in the tank. In 2024, he played 67% of snaps, which was just shy of his all-time career high. Even with all the production, he is primarily used in base defenses, whether it's a 3-4 or 4-3 unit. In the projected Steelers' lineup, he could see more playing time depending on if Keeanu Benton continues to stagnate in development, as they would likely rotate in nickel packages. Steelers could use Collins Benton has a lot of upside, but the Steelers do need a backup plan in case he has another season similar to 2024. The Steelers are hoping that moving him from nose tackle to 3-tech will help unlock his potential, but if it doesn't, Collins could be a good safety blanket at that position, as well as a high-end rotational piece throughout the season. Even though Cameron Heyward recently had a career revival, he is still getting up there in age, and it seems like a matter of when he slows down, as opposed to if. Collins' versatility would help the Steelers give their defensive captain some more breaks if needed, so they can maximize Heyward's production without hanging him out to dry every week. In a position as physical and demanding as defensive line, you can never have too much depth. While the Steelers' projected line would not have Collins as the Day 1 starter, anything can happen and having that safety blanket would be key to making sure Pittsburgh can continue to stop the run and pressure the opposing quarterback, no matter who is out. While it would be nice to see Hargrave in a Steelers uniform, he is 32 years old and coming off of a major injury that ended his 2024 season in September. Collins has been in the league for the same amount of time as Hargrave, but he is younger and has less of a history with injuries while having the same amount fo experience.
