NFL Rumors: USC's Kliff Kingsbury Interviews for Eagles' Vacant OC Job

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly interested in a former NFL head coach for their vacant offensive coordinator position.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the NFC East team interviewed USC senior offensive analyst Kliff Kingsbury for the position on Tuesday.

The Eagles are in the market for a new OC after they moved on from Brian Johnson, per Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kingsbury is a notable name, but he doesn't have a long track record of success.

He was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals for four seasons from 2019 through 2022 but made the playoffs just once and finished with a 28-37-1 record. His Arizona team also lost its only playoff game in blowout fashion.

Before he was an NFL head coach, Kingsbury was the head coach at Texas Tech from 2013 through 2018.

While that meant he had the opportunity to coach Patrick Mahomes at the college level, he finished with a 35-40 record during his time with the Red Raiders. And even USC went from 11-3 in 2022 without Kingsbury to 8-5 in 2023 when he was on the staff.

Yet he continues to receive consideration for high-profile NFL jobs and also interviewed with the Chicago Bears for their offensive coordinator position before they ultimately chose Shane Waldron.

Whoever ends up becoming the next offensive coordinator of the Eagles will be tasked with helping them overcome this past season's collapse.

Philadelphia started the 2023 campaign with a 10-1 record and looked like it could be well on the way to a second consecutive Super Bowl appearance. However, it lost five of its final six regular-season games and then dropped its Wild Card Round game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by 23 points.

There will be plenty of pressure on Kingsbury or whoever else the Eagles hire after such a disappointing finish.
