Another game of rotations for USWNT and this time they don't pan out. Mexico defeats USA for the first time since 2010 and win Group A.

IT'S ALL MEXICO! Pelayo has given Mexico the insurance goal! A shot from distance and it's possibly the dagger as we're into stoppage time. 

Rodman is knocking!

The winger has been in good positions during the second half and gets a good look late in the game. She tries a shot on a wide angle and just misses by inches of the far post. 

OFF THE POST!

Pelayo with a shot from distance and forces a tip save off the post by Alyssa Naeher! There's a rebound and another shot attempt but Naeher scrambles and makes a kick save to keep things close.

Jaedyn Shaw subs into the match for Rose Lavelle. Maybe some different combinations will be key for the U.S.

Goal line clearance!

Rodman receives a lofty ball into the box and tries to catch Barrera off her line. She toe pokes the ball but there are Mexican defenders to clear the ball off the line. 

Another Corner for Mexico

Ovalle with the ball at her feet has numbers with teammates alongside her. She tries a quick cross but its deflected out for another corner. That's seven for Mexico now. 

More changes for USWNT

Korbin Albert and Midge Purce have subbed into the match for Emily Fox and Sam Coffey. Will there be more Purce magic?

Mexico remains active

Another offensive sequence for Mexico in the attacking third, the ball takes a deflection off Dahlkemper, Mexico is arguing for a handball, but the official VAR crew doesn't have enough for a call. 

Still no goals for USWNT

We're officially past the hour mark and no goals for the Stars and Stripes. They've struggled to really find space behind Mexico's line, and it's been difficult for them to find open seams to exploit.

Mexico winning set pieces 

Mexico win the first corner of the second half. The United States are able to clear it away but aren't able to retain the ball, committed to their press, they're able to win the ball back again and win another free kick.

Mexico not letting their foot off the gas, Nieto takes a long-distance shot and connects off the crossbar. All Tri Femenil in stoppage time of half one.

GOAL MEXICO!!!!

IT'S OVALLE WITH THE LONG-DISTANCE CHIP! An incredible sequence that catches Naeher out of position as Ovalle dances with the ball and nails a chip from the top of the box. 

CHANCE EMILY FOX!

The fullback tries to do it herself. Fox playing inverted and cuts centrally with the ball at her feet and tries a shot from a distance. It's on target and forces a save out of the keeper.

USWNT defend 

Mexico with a good opportunity but was unable to capitalize on the free kick, they're able to recycle the ball around but unable to get a look at goal. 

Dangerous free kick 

Sam Coffey with the foul and Mexico has an opportunity for free kick from nearly 30 yards out. 

No goals yet

Plenty of movement during the opening 20 minutes but no goals yet. The USWNT is being tested by Mexico and their press and havent quite been able to get into a steady rhythm of momentum. 

Ovalle takes contact

Horan feeling the pressure of a player behind her reaches back and appears to make contact with Ovalle's face. The winger is off the pitch to get some treatment as play resumes.

Both teams have won a set piece in their attacking half. Each side trying to establish their tempo in the opening five minutes.

They had a huge missed opportunity from the penalty spot against Argentina and were forced out of their game plan during physical moments. They turned things around against Dominican Republic and racked up the goals they needed to take a step closer to knockouts.

The main thing to keep an eye on during the group stage finale will be goal difference. The USWNT could be one of three group winners that win all of their matches, and considering the teams that advance will be ranked based on their point totals before placing them in the quarterfinals, the first tiebreaker of goal difference will be crucial. The USWNT have the best goal difference in the competition right now with plus-nine and are expected to add to that count which could be bad news for Mexico, but even if they lose and Argentina win, Argentina will need to overcome a goal difference gap of 12 to overtake them in second.

How they got here

The Americans have been dominant thus far, defeating the Dominican Republic 5-0 and Argentina 4-0 to clinch a spot in the knockout rounds already. They enter the matchup atop Group A with six points and a goal differential of nine. Mexico, however, can make a push for the top spot in the group with a win. They sit in second with four points after settling for a scoreless draw with Argentina, but then routing the Dominican Republic 8-0.
