Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Announces Marriage in Social Media Post

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani announced Thursday morning on Instagram that he recently got married.

“To all my friends and fans throughout, I have an announcement to make,” Ohtani wrote, as translated from Japanese. “Not only have I began a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers, but I also have began a new life with someone from my native country of Japan who is very special to me, and I wanted everyone to know I am now married. I am excited for what is come and thank you for your support.”

Ohtani signed a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers this winter after spending the first six seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Angels.

Ohtani’s unique skill set as a power hitter, and when healthy, frontline starting pitcher, is unprecedented in the modern era of the sport.

The Japanese phenom hit 171 home runs over the first six seasons of his career, including 44 last season. He also has amassed a .274 career batting average to go along with a .922 OPS.

As a pitcher, Ohtani has a career 3.01 ERA across 86 starts, with 608 career strikeouts.
