NFL Draft Rumors: Eagles GM Roseman Calls Teams to Trade Up in 1st Round amid CB Buzz

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is expected to trade up in the NFL draft's first round by "many people around the league," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"Per sources, he already has been calling around, gauging what a trade up might look like to be prepared for what has become a near-annual tradition," Schefter wrote.

Philadelphia holds the No. 22 selection in Thursday's first round.

ESPN's Jordan Reid reported that sources say the Eagles "want to trade up in Round 1 or Round 2 to target either a cornerback or an offensive tackle."

Roseman has traded up in Round 1 four times in the last five drafts, Schefter noted.

Since joining the Eagles in 2010, Roseman has drafted 13 players in the first round. All but three of those selections came from picks acquired via trade, NBC Sports' Reuben Frank reported.

However, Roseman has never used a first-round pick to draft "a corner, tight end, running back or safety," Schefter reported.

That could change in 2024 as the Eagles look to improve a secondary that struggled last season, especially in the slot.

Roseman could address that need by securing a cornerback pick like Alabama's Terrion Arnold or Iowa's Cooper DeJean, both of whom found success in the slot during their college careers. DeJean was ranked by Pro Football Focus as having the best slot coverage of any college quarterback in 2023.

The B/R NFL Scouting Department projects Arnold going at No. 14, and DeJean at No. 25, in the latest 2024 NFL mock draft.

There's a chance the Eagles could land a top cornerback without moving. Given Roseman's propensity for trading up, however, Philadelphia might jump a few slots just to make sure it get its preferred pick.
