Matsuyama's win brought him closer to Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele at the top of the FedEx Cup standings, but the top two still have a significant lead over the rest of the pack.
Scheffler picked up 540 points in Memphis, while Schauffele added 980 points to his season-long haul.
Matsuyama's win worth 2,000 points got him within 1,200 points of Schauffele, but he is 2,700 points adrift of Scheffler.
That means Schauffele is the only golfer who can catch Scheffler by the end of next week's BMW Championship.
The winner of each of the three FedEx Cup Playoffs events receive 2,000 points, so as long as Scheffler keeps placing in the top 10, he will be incredibly hard to beat by anyone other than Schauffele.
The rest of the places in the FedEx Cup standings come with different money allocations, so there is still plenty left to play for over the next two weeks.
The primary focus at the BMW Championship next week will be the golfers placed from 31st-50th. The top 30 players are the only ones who qualify for the Tour Championship.
Tommy Fleetwood enters the BMW in 31st place after Denny McCarthy vaulted 15 places into 30th.
Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Corey Conners, Adam Scott and Max Homa are among the golfers in need of a strong week at Castle Pines Country Club in Colorado to make it to the Tour Championship.
The movement within the top 30 will be notable as well since the Tour Championship begins with a staggered start, The top golfer in the FedEx Cup standings begins at 10-under in two weeks, while the golfers from 26th-30th begin at one-under.
