Toney was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs prior to the start of the 2024 NFL season. He had been acquired by the Chiefs during the 2022 season and won two Super Bowl Championships with the franchise.
Toney began his career with the New York Giants and had some production in his rookie season but struggled to find a role with the team before being dealt to Kansas City.
He showed flashes of promise in 2022, getting 171 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the regular season and adding a touchdown and a 65-yard punt return in the Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. However, inconsistent play and a drop issue plagued his 2023 season and he was inactive during that year's Super Bowl run.
Still the 25-year-old has talent and the Browns decided to see if they could unlock his potential. The team already has strength at the position with Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore serving as headliners but Toney can add to the depth.
